Week 5, All About Me

This was a short week for us because of our weekend beach trip and travel home on Labor Day.  We also had Thursday Connection, so technically, we had three days of school at home.  We started into our new theme, “All About Me”.

We did her fingerprints and talked about how there is no one else like her in the world!

For a few weeks now, she has been adding pictures and words to her ABC word book.  (words of her choice, I might add!)

Rainbow writing sight words-

Now that she has a pretty good grasp on initial consonant sounds, we are diving into the world of blends!  FUN, right?!  Here she was working on distinguishing between what the beginning parts of these words were.  She, of course, couldn’t read all of these words, but this activity was mainly to help her to look at the beginning of the word and see how it starts.  She could very easily tell which category the words went into.

As we move forward, I need to keep building on her ability to see the “chunks” or parts of the words and remember the sounds that all these blends and diagraphs make.  The sound part can be tricky for a child with speech issues!!

Here she had a free choice on what to write about.  She immediately decided and drew her pictures first.  She had lots to say and wanted me to write her story down for her.  I could hardly write fast enough as she spoke.  I did have her write some of her sight words on her own in her story.  Oh yeah, in case you didn’t notice, she loves exclamation points! haha  I mean, who needs a period, if you can have an exclamation point!

And Reagan’s art piece from the week, “Salvadore Dali’s Birds“.  The teacher talked about the artist and the meaning of surrealism.  She had the children draw really long legs on their birds.  I loved this piece!
