Since I was a young child, I have always been passionate about animals. I always wanted to feed the stray dogs and cats and bring them home. I did on several occasions! We grew up around animals, and it is something that I still enjoy and want to let my children experience.
We were driving home from church on a Sunday afternoon (back in Apri) in the pouring rain when we were stopped in a line of traffic on this little country, curvy road. We realized that all the cars were slowing down to go around this little dog that was just standing in the middle of the road, soaking wet. We passed on by like everyone else, but then, my convictions kicked in and we turned around to go back after the dog. I picked her right up, and we took her home. She was shivering cold. We bathed her, dried her, and I spent over three hours combing her hair and cutting out nasty knots of matted hair. She had sores and a lot of irritation from all the matted places in her coat. She was quite patient with me throughout the process.
After getting her cleaned up as much as I could, Daniel and I went back to where I found her. He knocked door to door up and down the street asking anyone if she belonged to them or if they knew where she belonged. No one claimed her. We brought her back home with us. The kids were super glad to have her come back. We took her to get groomed the next day, and I worked with the local organization Friends of Campbell County, TN Animals to get her on her way to a new home in Chicago! We so enjoyed having her in our home for one week and hope that she is super happy wherever she is now!
This is her after her three hours in the bathroom with me getting cleaned up!
1st morning at our house!
After getting groomed- looking like a new girl!
A new purple collar-
On her last night with us, the girls had a little ipad photoshoot with her in their room.
Having some last cuddles with Jenna V at Gran’s before taking her to FCCA for her rescue operation.
Final goodbyes- 🙁 It was sad. We all cried when saying goodbye, but were feeling glad to have helped save her life.
Here’s a video of clips from our week with her. She was a fun girl who had a lot to say. It was a rewarding experience for all of us to help her!
