Our elves have made it a tradition of showing up on Emmy’s Birthday, Dec. 1st!

She did her own make up for church.

Last days of summer…

As we start getting hints of fall temperatures and back into our school routine, we begin to bid summer goodbye. Summertime was good to us. We bid it a bittersweet farewell.

Here’s a video of random snippets from our summer-

We spent a few days getting our classroom ready for a new year.

We are collecting a set of the state quarters. The girls are doing etchings of them as we collect them.

Max was super proud of the bag of apples he picked at Gran & Papaw’s house.

Another loose tooth-

You know it is time to pull your loose tooth when you can push it between your lips. ha

Emmy found a dead butterfly in a parking lot and was really proud of her find.

Jenna V, our rescue and foster dog

Since I was a young child, I have always been passionate about animals. I always wanted to feed the stray dogs and cats and bring them home. I did on several occasions! We grew up around animals, and it is something that I still enjoy and want to let my children experience.

We were driving home from church on a Sunday afternoon (back in Apri) in the pouring rain when we were stopped in a line of traffic on this little country, curvy road. We realized that all the cars were slowing down to go around this little dog that was just standing in the middle of the road, soaking wet. We passed on by like everyone else, but then, my convictions kicked in and we turned around to go back after the dog. I picked her right up, and we took her home. She was shivering cold. We bathed her, dried her, and I spent over three hours combing her hair and cutting out nasty knots of matted hair. She had sores and a lot of irritation from all the matted places in her coat. She was quite patient with me throughout the process.

After getting her cleaned up as much as I could, Daniel and I went back to where I found her. He knocked door to door up and down the street asking anyone if she belonged to them or if they knew where she belonged. No one claimed her. We brought her back home with us. The kids were super glad to have her come back. We took her to get groomed the next day, and I worked with the local organization Friends of Campbell County, TN Animals to get her on her way to a new home in Chicago! We so enjoyed having her in our home for one week and hope that she is super happy wherever she is now!

Final goodbyes- 🙁 It was sad. We all cried when saying goodbye, but were feeling glad to have helped save her life.

February Fun continued-

Another visit to the animal shelter-

Valentine’s Day was on Thursday so Emmy and I had some special time together in Knoxville while Rea was at TC.

Here’s Rea with all her Valentine’s loot- She was excited to go through it all on the way home.

Crazy kids-

I think it is safe to say that Dixie and Tucker have a sister/brother relationship.

Cuties- they do favor a lot!

The kids wanted to put a diaper on Tuck just for fun. He actually peed in it once. He doesn’t look too thrilled about it.

Another animal shelter trip-

We had just got home from the animal shelter when we got “the phone call” that Uncle Rick had been in a farming accident. Simultaneously, we heard the Life Star helicopter flying over our house with him in it going to UT Hospital. What a horrible feeling. We did not know much information about his condition at that time- only that it was critical. I quickly made arrangements for the kids and headed to UT Hospital where my entire family and a multitude of family friends gathered in the UT Emergency Waiting Room. To make a long story short, Rick was injured seriously, but was going to be OK. Praise the Lord, it was a miracle that he survived. We stopped by a few days after the accident for the girls to see him. They took him a flower and a strawberry milkshake!

Another one of Max’s injuries. Bless him- this probably was the worst pump knot he’d ever had. He has hit his head in this same spot SO many times, I think he is going to have a permanent knot.
