February Fun

Well, I kicked off the month of February with a horrible, horrible virus.  I was so sick.  Yuck.  I had no one to help me with the kids on one of the days I felt so bad.  I literally stayed in bed the entire day.  They helped take care of each other and me, too.  It was really very sweet and impressive at the same time.  Here they are “toasting” popsicles.

This weekly visit to the animal shelter wasn’t our normal visit…

because we met this little guy!  I knew when I saw him that we had to rescue him.24

I mean, look at that sweet face!  We speculated he was part weimaraner and either pit bull OR boxer.  Not sure, but either way- he was so sweet.  I asked the shelter to hold him for me while I made arrangements to get him to our home!26

We did not have a name for him right off.  The girls came up with some doozies.  We went over a day without a name, but finally settled on “Tucker”.  We were able to re-home our last rescue pup “Maggie” to a good home during this process so it all worked out wonderfully.34

January days…

As we were walking out the door to go to Gran’s for dinner, Emmy grabbed her umbrella and said, “Mom, I hope it’s raining outside!”

I got to volunteer in Reagan’s Magic Schoolbus class at Thursday Connection.  They studied bats and then did an echo location activity.  It was really neat to see the kids pretending like they were bats and using the echo location method to find their food.

Emmy and Reagan enjoyed lunch together in the cafeteria at TC.  Emmy was excited to have brought her lunch.

Week 14, Presidential Election & Healthy Eating

Pictures from 11/5/12 to 11/11/12

This week we talked a lot about the Food Groups and eating balanced meals.  We also spent a day focusing on the Presidential Election.

We played a game that focused on recognizing Vowels called “Boom Boom Vowel”.

This night was so fun!  Reagan and Emmy dressed up as waitresses in the playroom.  They explained the food groups to me, Max, and daddy.  Then they gave us a menu.  We told them what we wanted, Reagan wrote it down, and then they served us with the pretend food from their kitchen center.  It was really a great time of learning and laughter.

When it was all over, Reagan brought a bill out to her daddy for 100.00 dollars.  She is quite witty at times.

Emmy gave us a little post-dinner concert.

And then, daddy taught them how to play “spin the bottle”.

We try to do one “mini book” a week.  Rea colors them and puts them together.  She has to read the story to at least 3 different people and get their signature on the back of the book.  She enjoys it a lot.IMG_8040

The girls had mock ballots that they used to vote with.  They both voted for Romey.  Reagan went with her daddy to vote so she got to see first hand how the process works.  She even watched tv as the results came in.

Max didn’t much care about the election.  He voted to paint!

Another shot my dad texted me while I was at work.  They kids played in the leaves at Gran and Papaw’s house.  Reagan said it was “the most fun ever”.

Week 12, All Things Fall cont.

We did a lot of hands-on, outdoor learning this week!  I guess this is one of the benefits of homeschool- lots of nature walks, zoo visits, etc.!  The weather was just too awesome not to be outside having fun.

(4th week of Oct.)

The girls collected ALOT of acorns at Gran & Papaw’s house…

…and climbed a few trees while they were at it!

Emmy has the craziest morning hair!

Emmy dressed herself for Tuesday storytime!

We checked this book out at the library and read it at the park.  The book actually talked about tracking geese as they migrate each year. Cove Lake Park always has some geese hanging around.  Reagan was able to see and understand how they tag the geese and track their migration.

We went for a rather long walk.  We collected more leaves, observed “fungi” growing, checked out how some logs were rotting, checked out root systems on trees…..  lots of topics!

She thought these leaves looked like elephant ears.

Aunt Kay Kay tagged along for our Rickard Ridge Baked Potato and walk at the park!  It was a GORGEOUS day.

A beaver dam-  (seeing this was extra cook because we had just read a book on animal homes)

IMG_8038

Emmy and Reagan had brought a caterpillar from home along on our Tuesday adventures.  Poor thing-  I don’t know how many times they dropped their bug cage, but it was probably enough to do a little caterpillar in!

Emmy got tired and also fell on our way out of the woods loop.  Aunt Kay Kay got suckered into carrying her the rest of the way out.  Only Aunt Kay Kay!

Dinner at Charley’s Pizza!  Anyone who has kids knows that eating at Charley’s isn’t actually about the pizza-

I had had a package come in the mail.  Max, of course, loved the cardboard box.  This is him literally in the middle of the night.  He actually woke up and walked through the house in the dark until he found the box.  I had to carry it back to bed for him, and he went back to sleep.  I’m telling you this kid is sometimes weird.  haha

A mid-week trip to the Ponderosa Zoo!

Here’s a couple videos from the zoo trip-  (turn blog music off before playing videos)

Aunt Kay Kay tagged along for Thursday Connection.  Here’s Emmy enjoying a piece of pizza for her breakfast!

Rea’s art-

Playing & waiting for Rea to get out of class-

A trip to Chuck E. Cheese-

We took the dogs to the LaFollette City Park for a quick family outing.  You can see the stamp from Emmy’s gymnastics class on her nose!
